In December 2011, the design I submitted for Walsall Hospital’s ‘Voices Through Corridors’ Heritage Lottery Funded commission, was selected as one of four shortlisted proposals.

We were briefed to propose a design for vinyl decals that would visually transcribe the memories of the old hospital buildings collected from members of the community, to remain in situ for up to 10 years. My design placed black and white illustrated images of the old hospital between colourful, stacked frames, with parts of the illustration slipping out between the layers, to reflect the shifting and dynamic preservations of memory. The coloured frames linked the illustrations with extracts from the community interviews, to create a floating memory gallery throughout the building.
